Clos d'Yvigne 'Le Rouge et Le Noir' 2004, Côte de Bergerac, at Majestic Wine Warehouses
The winemaker, Patricia Atkinson, best selling author of 'The Ripening Sun', vinifies her wines using traditional methods to extract maximum fruit flavours, colours and tannins. The wine is then aged in oak for up to 2 years. With 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, showing an array of rich, ripe fruit, blackberries and notes of cedar, this dense and savoury wine is aging beautifully. Perfect with lamb.

Langhe Nebbiolo 2006, De Forville, at Majestic Wine Warehouse
This Nebbiolo from a small family-run estate is a classic, approachable wine, showing the tar-and-rosewater characteristics typical of the variety. With black olive and dark cherry fruit on the palate, you could partner this with a broad range of food but would drink particularly well with chicken or rabbit dishes.

Deep and dark in colour, with scents of berry's and an ensemble of spiced cassis fruits on the palate. Well balanced with good tannins and a high complexity of fruit. Made by esteemed wine maker Vincent de Bez and a tip-top example of fine Lirac. Best served with all grilled meats, game or cheese.

McGuigan Signature Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Adelaide Hills, at Majestic Wine Warehouse
The fruit for this fresh, herbaceous white was harvested in the cool Adelaide Hills region. Grapes were picked early to maintain freshness in the wine and cool fermentation helped to enhance and encourage the more gentle aromatics. The palate shows passionfruit and gooseberry flavours, with great length and a crisp finish.

Fermented together to give harmony to the blend, the Syrah and Viognier grapes, from very low, concentrated yields, were not oak aged to allow the full flavours of the fruit to show through. The nose shows aromatic Viognier notes of violet and bergamot, which combine with characteristic Shiraz red fruit flavours on the palate. Elegant and clean on the finish, this is ideal with casseroles and grills.

This is done by limiting production though extensive pruning, a short period of oak ageing in both new and old wood and bottling the wines without fining or filtering, techniques which preserve the delicate fruit aromas. Floral notes and red berry fruits provide a crisp, fresh nose, the pure fruit flavours showing through on the juicy palate. Subtle oak provides structure to the wine, giving it a supple, rounded finish. Excellent with roast pork.
