Situated in the heart of Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise, this family estate with 30 hectares of vines has its origins in the 17th century. In 1964, Michel Sarrazin first began estate bottling, the emphasis on preserving the freshness and purity of the fruit while maintaining the sense of terroir. Fresh, rich and concentrated red fruit aromas with pure red berry flavours on the palate. The tannins are soft and round and the finish is crisp and clean.

Probably the biggest innovator currently working in Champagne, Daniel Thibault has revitalised Charles Heidsieck to great acclaim. He has increased the ratio of older, 'reserve' wines in the cuvée to develop a delicious, creamy, almost vanilla-like house style, and is now indicating the year of bottling to guide consumers into the age and development of what is still a non-vintage product. Full and rich, with a creamy softness that is underpinned by well-poised acidity.

Les Vins de Vienne is the result of a partnership between three of the Rhône’s top growers, Yves Cuilleron, Pierre Gaillard and François Villard, and their wines are regarded as representing the essence of each vineyard area. From a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, the nose is complex, with notes of ripe stone fruits and aniseed. Full and rounded in the mouth, it is well-balanced with a lingering, clean finish. Excellent with fish.

An excellent example of 1er Cru Beaune made with hand selected grapes from fourty year old vines. The wine is aged in both new and old wood for 16 months and then bottled without filtration. The nose shows expressive notes of cherry, raspberry, leather and liquorice, with good density on the palate. The finish is persistent with a hint of minerality. Excellent when drunk with regional French cheeses.

R de Rieussec 2006, Bordeaux, at Majestic Wine
A dry white from the celebrated Chateau Rieussec of Sauternes owned by Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. 80% Semillon, 20% Sauvignon and partial barrel fermentation imbues notes of peach, lanolin and citrus with just a hint of honeysuckle. Rich in texture, with good length, it makes and interesting alternative to Sancerre or 1er Cru Chablis.
