Excellent when drunk with regional French cheeses.

Rioja Reserva 2001, Marqués de la Concordia, at Majestic Wine Warehouse
2001 was an exceptionally good vintage in Rioja. Drought in the previous year meant reduced yields, resulting in incredibly intense fruit flavours in the grapes. This Reserva shows complex aromas of ripe fruit, cedar and spice, which develop into a smooth, velvety palate with powerful dark fruit flavours, hints of coffee and an almost chocolatety richness. Excellent with lamb.

Bourgogne Blanc 2005, Fortin, at MajesticWine
The vines are planted on the limestone soils of the ideally exposed south-east facing slopes of the Maconnais region. The nose reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity of pears, green apples and grapefruit nuances. The acidity and suppleness of fruit are in perfect harmony and display the elegance and richness of this Burgundian Chardonnay. Serve with simply grilled white fish or with fresh seafood.
