A recent "Manager's Choice" from Majestic Wine was Moulin-ß-Vent 'Les Bruyères' 2006 B. de Monceny; Showing a nose of bitter chocolate, cherries and a wonderfully constructed palate, this Beaujolais could easily be mistaken for a Pinot Noir. It is however, a good example of a Beaujolais cru famed for its fuller style and keeness to age. At this price we're really impressed by its complexity and length.

A superb rosé from the renowned house of Taittinger. Delicate, in the house style, but with the extra weight that the extra Pinot Noir brings giving a lovely balance of fresh red berry fruit and a lively mousse. Ideal for celebrations.

Laurent Miquel Nord Sud Shiraz Viognier 2005, at Majestic Wine Warehouse
Fermented together to give harmony to the blend, the Syrah and Viognier grapes, from very low, concentrated yields, were not oak aged to allow the full flavours of the fruit to show through. The nose shows aromatic Viognier notes of violet and bergamot, which combine with characteristic Shiraz red fruit flavours on the palate. Elegant and clean on the finish, this is ideal with casseroles and grills.

Crisp and refreshing on the finish, it makes a delicious aperitif or accompaniment to salads.

Carmen Winemaker's Reserve 2001, Maipo Valley, at Majestic Wine Warehouse
Winemaker Maria Pilar de Gonzalez chose a blend of Carmènere, Merlot, Syrah and Petite Syrah to balance out 50% ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon from Carmen's own vineyards. 100% French oak ageing for 12 months gives the wine tremendous personality with cassis, plum, cedar, mint and violet notes, merging seamlessly into a rich, smoky palate.

Bonterra Vineyards Zinfandel 2005, Mendocino, at MajesticWine
Bonterra's belief that the use of organically grown grapes make wines 'simply taste better' has fuelled their quest in becoming one of the world leaders in organic viticulture. In addition, Bonterra is one of the first wineries to have the Soil Association Certification for their wines. This formidable Zinfandel was 100% barrel fermented, resulting in a rich black cherry-scented wine with a lovely spicy finish.

Wolf Blass Gold Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2001, Coonawarra, at MajesticWine
An exceptional wine benefiting from new French and American oak ageing giving real depth of flavour. A vibrant deep red with seductive aromas of mint, chocolate and tobacco so typical of the Coonawarra region. A rich and well textured palate displaying further flavours of cassis and violets. Christophe Cordier is one of the hottest winemakers in Burgundy, renowned for making top class wines from fruit grown in only the best terroirs. Produced in the village of Fuissé, this wine offers a fabulous alternative to the more expensive wines of Pouilly Fuissé. A medley of ripe apple and zesty lemon fruit characters create great depth and intensity. Perfect served as an aperitif.

Surprising as it may sound Chassagne-Montrachet produces more red than white - a fact often overlooked in favour of the cult following its whites. Not surprisingly then the reds are extremely good value offering lush earthy aromas with ripe red cherry flavours.

The Juillot family have been involved in the Côte Chalonnaise winemaking trade since the middle of the fifteenth century and each generation has inherited both the skills and passion for winemaking of their forebears and the determination to produce wines of the highest quality. A brilliant gold in colour, the nose displays floral notes which complement the ripe pear and peach flavours on the palate. A touch of vanilla, from the oak ageing gives a roundness to the wine, which gives a slight hint of hazelnut on the aftertaste. Excellent with creamy seafood dishes.
