2001 was an exceptionally good vintage in Rioja. Drought in the previous year meant reduced yields, resulting in incredibly intense fruit flavours in the grapes. This Reserva shows complex aromas of ripe fruit, cedar and spice, which develop into a smooth, velvety palate with powerful dark fruit flavours, hints of coffee and an almost chocolatety richness. Excellent with lamb.

Christophe Cordier is one of the hottest winemakers in Burgundy, renowned for making top class wines from fruit grown in only the best terroirs. Produced in the village of Fuissé, this wine offers a fabulous alternative to the more expensive wines of Pouilly Fuissé. A medley of ripe apple and zesty lemon fruit characters create great depth and intensity. Perfect served as an aperitif.

A medium-bodied, fruity Rhône-inspired red. Grenache is blended with Syrah and the resulting wine offers up-front fruit, with good balance and length. The absence of oak-influence only serves to enhance the dominance of the fruity aromas and flavours.

Domaine de la Janasse Terre de Bussière 2005, Vin de Pays de la Principauté d'Orange, at Majestic Wine
Winemaker Christophe Sabon has set Jarnasse on the road to becoming the Beaucastel of the future. Tiny yields from old vines give this wine great intensity and purity of fruit, whilst capturing the nuances of the ?terroir'. An unusual blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache this has ripe red fruits and herbaceous spicy flavours that make it ideal with all types of meat dishes.
